What Will She Wear?

The question has been burning the minds of designers everywhere. Everyone wants to know whose garment Michelle Obama will wear to the inaugural ball tonight. For months, designers have been sketching and submitting their designers to our new First Lady and fashion trade publication Women’s Wear Daily.

But you don’t have to wait for tonight’s inaugural ball to catch a glimpse of Mrs. Obama’s fashion and jewellery choices. From the We Are One concert to the inauguration, Mrs. Obama has filled the nation’s capital with, style, prestige, and honor.

At the We Are One concert Michelle Obama wore a Narciso Rodriguez ensemble in black and camel with beautiful diamond chandieler earrings.

For the kids concert the First Lady wore J. Crew along with a turquoise and blue fashion belt that was reminiscent of art deco brooches from Janeo Jewels.

At the Inaugural Ceremony Michelle Obama shocked designer Isabel Toledo by wearing her gold ensemble that sparkled like swarovski crystals.


Tonight’s garments will have precedence over anything Michelle Obama has worn throughout her political career as she stands alongside her husband, President Obama. But don’t forget the jewels. When it comes to formal events costume jewellery is as important as the dress. Whatever garment or costume jewellery Michelle Obama wears, I’m sure she’ll be chic. If she had on a potato sack, swarovski crystal chandelier earrings, glass bead necklaces, and layered swarovksi crystal bracelets, she’d still look great. She seems to pull off any look seamlessly.

Nigeria is the perfect place to travel if one wants to escape the cold air of Christmas, but still celebrate its meaning.

Religion in Nigeria divides the population into half Muslim and Christian. In some instances, both Muslim and Christian holidays can fall on days very close together. This only makes for extra long holidays.

Festivals in the streets provide free entertainment and they also reflect the African tradition. Bright images of vibrant colors, costumes and masquerades mark these events.

If the economy has affected the way you traditionally spend your Christmas, explore another country this season. Dress up in your best jewellery and clothes instead of buying a multitude of expensive gifts. Place an art deco multi-colour emerald brooch on your best dress. You fellows can wear a stainless steel black graphic pendant to compliment your favorite suit.

Today's Japanese Fashion Trends

Japanese style has always been wicked. Anime art has had an influence on fashion houses as well as street trends. Lately, the trends have shifted from inspired fashion of Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z, in which individuals wear mitch-matched clothing and over accessorize with stainless steel bracelets, fashion belts and art deco brooches. Today's trends, while resembling animation, inspire feminine looks of 18th century France.
In Tokyo, a group of girls is growing who dress like royalty who have escaped the Rococo era of art. The style icons for this group are figures like Paris Hilton and Marie Antoinette. So just image, young girls walking the streets of Tokyo covered in pink- pink ribbon headbands, crystal brooches and diamond earrings. These girls dress as if they are attending garden tea parties fit for a queen everyday. To find this clothing, they shop at Jesus Diamante. This is a boutique where one can easily spend $1000 on an outfit. Not only do girls of this rising group dress in frilly lace and costume jewellery, but they have the mannerisms and voice to match. Mayumi Yamamoto who is an avid shopper of Diamante speaks in a soft, bubbly voice as she talks about this new fad. Yamamoto takes it one step further, she has decorated her room in rococo style furniture of florals and imitation fabrics of that period.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the new wave of princess girls are better known as hime gyaru. So far this trend has only been executed by girls. It would be nice to see some little princes in the streets of Tokyo. They can wear fitted trouser, mens pendants, men's bangles, and maybe diamond earrings for a modern twist. Since the style seems to transition into a lifestyle for those welling to undertake the extravagance of this new trend, maybe it will bring back chivalry. It is definitely, one of the lost 18th century practices.
